THEORETICAL DISCUSSION IS GO. My view of time. I associate time with being the fourth dimension mainly because of the way humans experience time. I have to give some ideas to back up what I’m going to say: Fluctuations in the first dimension make the second dimension; fluctuations in the second make the third. I think all dimensions are connected in a similar way, so I see fluctuations in the third as creating the fourth. Thus, when humans experience any type of change in their third dimensional world, they experience time. We can only experience it in the direction that we perceive it; generally this direction is defined by the 2nd law of thermodynamics, that is, entropy increases. The 4th dimension exists in all directions, so to speak. So the concept of time can be tricky, depending on if the reference point is human or physics theory.
That being said, I’ve had so many arguments in my mind about the existence of time. The conclusion I tend to come to is that time is all-existent (meaning that all arrangements of ‘everything’ in the 3rd dimension exist at one ‘time’) and for some reason humans experience a constant succession of ‘points’ in time in the direction of increased entropy (human perception has never been my strong point, so I apologize for no elaborating more on this section).
Another problem I have with the concept of time is the big bang and or black hole. Things having to do with the ‘begining’ of time and dealing with the concept of time slowing down in the presence of mass. But I’ll save this discussion for another time or another question :)
Disclaimer: I am not a theoretical physicist (yet). These are merely my views on the matter at hand.
Also, I think that as we learn more about time, space, etc., we can disprove the possibility of a divine creator. This ties in more with discussions on the big bang’s role in ‘time’.
