For almost my entire life I’ve had this incredible fear of death, but recently I got over it. The other day I was talking to my religious friend about it and he said “How did you overcome it? Was it the knowledge that once you die you will be able to bask in the eternal glory of our lord and our God?”
I paused for a moment and said something along these lines.
“No, quite the opposite actually. I no longer fear death because I know that I will not be aware of it. I take solace in the fact that it’s simply the end. That everything just stops and I will be none the wiser. Tell me, why would I want to go to Heaven? Why would I want to be forced to watch my family and friends grieve over me and attempt to pick up the pieces from above while centuries’-worth of pious people attempt to make me play in their daily volleyball tournament?
